Curriculum

EL Education is the provider of the new ELA curriculum that is has been adopted by OUSD for grades K-8. The curriculum is standards-based, and relies heavily on fiction and nonfiction books.

EL Education is a way of learning that helps students work hard, think deeply, and care about their school and community. Instead of just reading from a textbook, students explore big ideas, ask questions, and do real-world projects. They also learn how to be kind, work as a team, and take pride in their work. EL Education helps students grow not just as learners, but as people too!

This curriculum is open access, and full materials are available to view and download at the EL Education website.  OUSD's implementation and support materials are subject to EL Education's Terms of Use. 

Eureka Math^®  is the math program we use at Brookfield to help us understand how math really works. Instead of just solving problems quickly, it teaches us to think carefully, explain our answers, and try different strategies. Each lesson builds on what we already know, so we get better at solving harder problems over time. It’s like learning how to be a math detective!

Brookfield students become problem solvers, collaborators, communicators, and owners of mathematics, to ensure college and career readiness through this math curriculum!

U-FLI Foundations is an explicit and systematic reading program that introduces students to the foundational skills needed for proficient reading. UFLI Foundations finds the perfect balance between structure and responsiveness to students' needs!

Our reading program helps students learn how to sound out words and become strong readers using the Science of Reading. It teaches the sounds that letters and letter groups make, and shows you how to put those sounds together to read and spell words. In each lesson, you practice reading, writing, and having fun with phonics. It’s like building your reading muscles one step at a time! 

Designated English Language Development (D-ELD) is a protected time each day for instruction tailored for each student's language proficiency level.

At Brookfield the majority of our students have a home language other than English. We prioritize supporting English language development and helping to reclassify our students so they can be on target for a challenging English language education in OUSD. 

ELD strategies are special ways teachers help students who are learning English. These strategies make lessons easier to understand and help students learn new words, speak clearly, and write strong sentences. For example, teachers might use pictures, videos, hand gestures, or sentence starters to help students understand and talk about what they’re learning. ELD helps students grow in English while still learning math, science, reading, and more!

Science at Brookfield Village is hands-on and project-based. Students explore life science as a compliment to the EL Ed curriculum and get to have real world experiences learning about the physical world around them. We compliment our science learning with labs and field trips to explore and understand the world around us! We use FOSS Science curriculum and integrated projects as a extension in all grades.
